Ecliptic

The ecliptic is the imaginary line in the sky that marks the apparent path of the Sun over the course of a year. Although it looks like the Sun is moving, this path is actually created by Earth’s orbit around the Sun; as we move, the Sun appears to shift against the background of different stars. You can think of it as a "highway" in the sky that represents the plane of our solar system, where the Moon and planets are also usually found.
